A friend very kindly brought me a lovely orchid.
I’ve been admiring the beautiful flowers, but when I came to draw it today I found that my interest was caught equally by the leaves as the flowers. The leaves are large and bendy and suddenly looked like green tongues!
The flowers are beautiful and look unreal, with delicate vein patterns on the petals.
I didn’t know until today that the vanilla pods we use in baking come from a type of orchid.
If you are within reach of Salisbury, you are welcome to visit my studio, which is open daily until 18th September, where some of my drawings and paintings are on display. More information here
