I happened to mention to a friend that I liked old keys, and the next time I saw her she presented me with a tin full of keys from her garage. She had no idea what any of them were for, or what to do with them, so was pleased to give them to me.
Some old keys – not all of the ones in the tin- are very attractive and intricate. Perhaps it’s because our modern keys have got rather small and uninteresting- or given way to keypads – but there is something intriguing about large old keys, in addition to their shape. I like the oval of this one, and and the shape of the end, and imagine the complicated mechanism it was made to fit.
But where is the lock? What treasures await this key?
