I do love blossom – looking at it and drawing it.
Our little plum tree is covered in white flowers at the moment.
Why do we talk about ‘blossom’ rather than flowers? According to the Woodland Trust website, blossom refers to the flowers of stone fruit trees such as plum, cherry and apple.
The site also tells us that an early spring is not good for wildlife. If the blossom appears too early, it may be gone by the time hungry chicks are ready for feeding with the insects which feed on the flowers.
So I’ll try not to worry too much that the pigeons keep landing on the plum blossom – and hope they are eating insects and not flowers.
