We are lucky enough to have some Daphne bushes in the garden. I wish I could add the scent to this drawing. It’s intoxicating. The bumble bees were taking a great interest in it in the sun yesterday.
It reminds me too of someone I worked with who every year brought a sprig in for each of us. We all missed it greatly after he’d left.
Sadly this beautiful plant – and its later berries – are highly poisonous. Time for another washing of the hands…
Dear Jenny
Daphne does have the most beautiful perfume which I think even surpasses the Sarcococca. I have enjoyed sprigs from a friend for the last few weeks and I think it is about time I stopped saying “I must buy a plant for myself” and just do it. I am trying to propagate one, however.
I don’t know Sarococca. I hope to have the chance to smell it some time.
I don’t think Daphne is the easiest plant. We were lucky to find them in the garden when we moved in. Good luck!
Dear Jenny
Forgot to say (the most important!) you have captured the shape of Daphne perfectly. Just lovely.
Thank you!
