It’s lovely to see the catkins on the otherwise bare trees.
Apparently in the Middle Ages 7th February was considered the start of spring. Perhaps it was warmer then. With the ‘Beast from the East ll’ around this week and a forecast of very low temperatures it still feels very much like winter, but the catkins give the promise of change to come.
I think these catkins are from a hazel tree.
Apparently ‘catkin’ comes from Middle Dutch and means ‘kitten’.
Lovely to see signs of Spring with this and snowdrops, which are called Mary’s tears and are seen at Candlemas time appropriately
I hadn’t heard ‘Mary’s Tears’ before. Thank you.
