Lavender’s blue

Lavender reminds me of so many things. My mother’s friend’s house, which always smelt strongly of it; fields of purple, lilac and blues in the south of France; the childhood song ‘Lavender’s blue dilly dilly’ (which apparently dates from the 17th century); lavender bags for our wardrobes to keep the moths away and our clothes smelling sweet.

Nowadays lavender is used in pillow sprays to help us sleep, and even in cooking (it is from the mint family I learn).

This one is a beautiful deep colour. I pinch the head and release an intense scent and take a moment to enjoy the memories as I draw.
