Kintsugi
Kintsugi is the centuries old Japanese practice of repairing broken ceramics, often using gold.
The object may have been in pieces, or the repair may be to a hairline crack. There is no attempt to disguise the repair; rather the repairs beautify and show the history of the object.
This series is an attempt to represent this idea in paint, as a metaphor for human life. The backgrounds are dark and heavily textured, reflecting our Biblical origins from clay, and the dust from which we come and will return. Gold metallic paint and gold leaf are used for the scars we all bear, which make us what we are.

Vessels
Vessels of different types are a subject to which I often return, as an interesting subject for semi-abstract works.
They may sometimes stand in for people, or provide interesting shapes to contrast with abstract backgrounds.

Abstract
Purely abstract paintings exploring colour, shape and texture.
Some have interlocking shapes; the shape between each becoming a shape in itself, connecting the whole. Each shape is different. Some are more immediately noticeable than others, but each is equally important to the overall painting.
Texture is a perpetual love, whether through the ‘ghost’ shapes from earlier layers of these many-layered works, from scraping through to different colours underneath, or through paint applied thickly with a palette knife.
Some of the paintings have a stillness and sense of calm. Others might wake you up! All re intended to have a certain mystery, and a sense that there is more to them than what lies on the surface.
