Thinking of Brittany again today with its pretty stone houses with their shuttered windows, almost all painted blue, and window boxes.
It may be that originally blue was chosen for shutters and doors as the colour of the Virgin Mary, protector of fishermen, or perhaps it’s just to reflect the colour of the sea.
Either way, it’s certainly the colour that comes to mind when Brittany is mentioned.
