I’ve always called this ‘plantain’, but apparently it’s full name is ribwort plantain, narrowleaf plantain or English plantain.  It seems that the leaves can be used to make a herbal tea as a remedy for coughs. I still like the feel of the tops in my fingers, much softer than they look, and have to fight the childhood urge to bend the stems round and ‘shoot’ them off.

Looking at them today I’ve enjoyed noticing the tiny hairs going off at strange angles, and the so thin filaments of the delicate white crown.
