This is another drawing from our recent trip to France. The old church in the village has such solid pillars, but when you look at them, they are made up of a jigsaw of carefully put together stones of very variable sizes. Each one has its place.
On this day I was also taken with the modern stained glass window behind the arch. There was something about looking through the ancient arch to the new glass; the solid foundation of the past leading to the present, as well as light from the modern perhaps illuminating the past.
And if that’s too fanciful for you, it is in any case an attractive blend of old and new – something the French do rather well.
