Today’s small delight is the Robin. These tuneful birds are so lovely to have in the garden, especially in the winter when we crave colour. 

Our robin was finding it difficult to perch on the bird feeders hanging in the trees, so we fixed one to the window.  It’s taken a while, but now he (or she? Apparently they look the same) comes happily to feed from it and we have a wonderful close-up view.

Although robins are friendly to people, I read they can be very aggressive to each other, and fight to defend their territories.

Apparently the first postmen in Britain wore red coats, and were known as ‘robins’.
