Looking at the houseplants today. This one is Mother-in-law’s Tongue. Not a very pretty name for a rather attractive plant. It’s also known as ‘snake plant’, but I’m not sure that’s much better.
Houseplants bring a bit of nature indoors, give us something to care for, and add oxygen to our environment. This one is supposed to be particularly good at removing pollutants from the home. I like to look up from my laptop or book and see a plant nearby, gently breathing and growing imperceptibly.
I bought this plant because I like the long leaves, its surging energy, the pattern on the leaves and the pronounced cream edges. Mother-in-law’s tongue is also supposed to be easy to care for, although drawing this one made me realise it needs repotting.
