Fresh artichokes are an occasional treat, especially in France, but I think this is the first time I’ve seen one in flower.
Once the flower comes it is no longer edible, but very decorative, and irresistible – though challenging – to draw.
With its purple flower, it’s clear that the globe artichoke is from the thistle family.
