I never thought I’d say this, but I’ve taken to polishing my taps. I used to think that if life were too short to stuff a mushroom (Shirley Conran), it was certainly too short to polish a tap. Taps were purely functional, and hardly noticed.
Maybe it’s lockdown, maybe it’s growing older, maybe it’s moving house, but I’ve taken to giving the bathroom taps a quick rub in the morning with a soft cloth. Just for a few seconds. When I go in there later they gleam at me and make me smile.
This morning I was entranced with all the shadows and reflections and had to get my pens out.
I’ve just polished mine and recognise very well that sense of satisfaction…
Dear Jenny
I’m with you there! Shiny taps do give simple pleasure. I like to get rid of the “splodges” and make way for the “gleam”. Mind you, I have to admit, I’ve never drawn them! Thank you for raising awareness of everyday unsung objects.
All best wishes
Lesley
Jenny I am with you having polished taps, I do my bathroom taps especially, everyday … that is what domestic goddess(s)’s do and not just in lockdown.
I have a long way to go to get to domestic goddess status… Small steps!
