The small delight of patterns in the frosted snow

 Drawing of frosted snow

Yesterday  afternoon we had a layer of powdery snow, which froze overnight. The resulting layer of white is not like frost, not quite like snow. From inside the house the covering on the grass resembles snow, but up close it’s a different world!

The grass is covered in a layer of entrancing pattern. I just caught a bit of it here. It’s lying above the grass like a paper doily. Here and there a long blade of glass or a leaf peep through.

I’m always fascinated by how the same patterns turn up in nature. The drawing could be leaves, seaweed, even islands seen from way above.

If you have any frosted snow in your garden, do wrap up and pop out for a close-up look at the  patterns on your lawn!
