The image for this week’s Small Delight may take a little work from you – you have to see it from my perspective. The delight is watching the clouds. As children we love to watch the clouds, and see shapes in them. But how many of us still do that regularly?
I’m reading a lovely book ‘Soulful Nature’ by Brian Draper and Howard Green.
These two friends describe 12 walks, one for each month. Howard knows the local history and all the flora and fauna. Brian adds the soulful reflections. In the chapter for August he quotes Gavin Pretor-Pinney, founder of the Cloud Appreciation Society (how delightful is that?) as reminding us that ‘we don’t live beneath the sky, but ‘within it’. I love that.
As someone who has always thought of the sky as ‘up there’ this was a revelation! Draper continues ‘So when we stop to breathe the air, we breathe the sky… there is sky in the soul’.
At the end of each chapter, there are suggested activities. These include lying down on the grass and watching the clouds. And this brings me to the perspective for this drawing!
