Paintings

My paintings are made up of many layers of mixed media, on wooden panels. As well as brushes I use a trowel, screwdriver, bowl scrapers, sandpaper and whatever comes to hand to create interesting textures.

Most paintings are 30 x 30 cm (12″ x 12″) and are for sale at £250 each + postage (shipping)

Some are 41×41 cm (16″ x 16″) for sale at £300 postage (shipping).

The smaller paintings are framed in wooden ‘floater’ frames, which I hand paint. The larger ones are on cradled panels, and I hand paint the sides.

Hope series

Lockdown and the pandemic affected all our lives. These paintings were made since the beginning of the first lockdown in Spring 2020.

Some, such as ‘Counting the Days’ and ‘Breaking Out’, show frustration with lockdown. Others, such as ‘Tranquility’ and ‘Catching the Light’ look at and beyond the simple things around us.

‘Take Five’ reflects how the tea break we used to love stretched from five minutes to five days to five months for many of us, while for others – those in the emergency services and delivery drivers for example – it was difficult even to snatch a five minute break.

We were unable to travel far physically, but we could still travel in the imagination and our dreams. Some of the paintings, such as ‘As She Walked Out one Winter’s Afternoon’,  ‘The Man in the Fez is blowing bubbles’ and ‘Making a Mark’  have a narrative quality for the viewer to complete.

All are intended to have hope and light. ‘The door might be shut, but the Light Still Shines’ depicting a closed church (or perhaps art gallery or theatre or…) and ‘Hope’ show this particularly strongly. ‘Bumping along Together’ suggests helping each other through tough times when we are being shaken up.

And most have at least a touch of red!

The paintings are acrylic or mixed media on wood panels in hand painted frames.

They are all 12″ x12″ + frame, and are priced at £230 each.
